Our Approach

The body knows how to heal itself. We strive to unlock each patient’s healing potential by focusing on nutrition, chiropractic health, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupuncture and herbs). We use a holistic, whole animal approach to support all animals, whether struggling with a disease or illness, or seeking to maintain wellness and optimal health.

Nutrition

There is nothing more fundamental to the health of our small animals than good nutrition. The secret to good nutrition for most dogs and cats is to recognize that they are carnivores and thrive when they eat unprocessed, meat-based diets. Unprocessed food will spoil if not refrigerated or frozen. It is the form of food that is the most beneficial for the body to consume because it most fully potentiates the body to maintain health and well-being. Processed foods, on the other hand, are the dry/kibbled foods that never spoil. Canned foods are less processed than dry food but are still too processed for most animals because the heating of the food to preserve it denatures the nutrients rendering the food less vital for health.

That’s the secret. I am not quite sure where is the controversy, but the effects of good food are so far-reaching.
We can help you choose from commercial raw frozen diets, commercial cooked diets, and home-cooked diets.

Many veterinary-recommended diets are dry or canned foods that are often loaded with carbohydrates. These diets may include what an animal needs to survive but not what most need to thrive. Ill-health will start to show itself in many possible ways including obesity and metabolic syndrome, inflammation in any body system, lumps and growths, and cancer. Proper nutrition can restore the body’s health and decrease inflammation.

Chiropractic Health

Chiropractic will help unlock the healing potential of the nervous system which restores mobility, decreases pain, and enables better movement.

You can expect a thorough evaluation of animal’s biomechanical function which will include a moving examination, motion palpation from head to tail, and a gentle, effective chiropractic adjustment. Dr. Landau will find the segments of the spine and areas of the body with restrictions in motion and find a way to reestablish motion, function, and neurologic output.

Dr. Landau’s extensive training in applied kinesiology allows him to identify imbalances that hold the body in physically stressful patterns. Once identified, these patterns can be fixed through proper adjustments. Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and dental problems, sacropelvic misalignments, and craniosacral faults can all be identified and corrected.

Owners use chiropractic care for their athletic animals to maximize performance and comfort. Lameness and weakness can benefit from chiropractic care to maximize the nervous system’s ability to properly support the joints and soft tissues of the body and to promote optimal healing. All animals can benefit from the preventive medicine of a good chiropractic adjustment.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) includes both acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine. Dr. Landau uses TCM identify where imbalance is occurring in the body and how to bring that balance back.

  • What are the symptoms or problems?
  • What do the tongue and pulse reveal?
  • Where are the active acupuncture points on the body’s surface?
  • What happens to the pulse when these active points are needled?

Dr. Landau will use these clues to figure out how to unlock the body’s ability to heal itself.

Herbal formulas will often be used in conjunction with acupuncture, whenever appropriate, to encourage the healing process.

How We Work in Partnership with Your Primary Care Veterinarian

Landau Veterinary Services works in partnership with every animal’s primary care veterinarian and does not seek to replace this vital service. It is imperative that all of Dr. Landau’s clients maintain an active relationship with their primary care veterinarian. There will be times when animals need to have a thorough primary care physical examination and diagnostic tests to evaluate a medical problem. Landau Veterinary Services does not offer any of these services.

What LVS does do is take the data and information obtained from primary care work-up and synthesize it into a plan for management using holistic methods. If possible, chronic conditions will be managed without the use of therapies and medications with harmful side effects from the primary care world. Either way, Dr. Landau will combine the best that primary care has to offer with his holistic approach.

Every case is different. Sometimes, Dr. Landau is able to reverse early medical conditions, but if not, will be able to minimize the dosage of many primary care medications leading to better outcomes with less medication.

Partnering with your Veterinarian is a must!
